MEET OUR INTERNS

Guillermo Alvarez

Guillermo is a Colombian American student born and raised in Boston, MA. From a young age, he has been fascinated by biodiversity and ecosystems. Road trips through Colombia, Eastern Canada, Costa Rica, and Southwestern United States inspired Guillermo to pursue environmental science professionally, starting with a marine ecology course offered at his high school. Guillermo is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences from Cornell University with a focus on natural resources and ecology. His academic achievements awarded him an internship as a student researcher through the Leadership Alliance in 2017 and a seat at the Hispanic Scholarship Fund STEM Summit as an HSF Scholar in 2020, both experiences through which he developed a profound appreciation for Latinx representation and empowerment in STEM. Guillermo aspires to explore new frontiers in environmental science and sustainability to inform critical decisions currently being made to mitigate anthropogenic climate change. Through these pursuits, he also hopes to enhance public education and participation in science across our communities. In his spare time, Guillermo enjoys playing the accordion and learning how to skateboard.
