Liz Renner is a freshwater fisheries ecologist and Ph.D. candidate in biology at Kansas State University. She graduated with honors from Augustana University in 2017 with degrees in biology and Spanish. Her research explores the effects of anthropogenic stressors such as habitat fragmentation, cultural eutrophication and invasive species introductions in Great Plains stream and small impoundment food webs. For her dissertation work under the supervision of Dr. Keith Gido, she is collaborating with fisheries biologists with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks to study the ecological role of gizzard shad in small impoundments managed for recreational fishing via replicated whole-lake manipulations with rotenone. When she’s not sampling aquatic ecosystems or analyzing fish stomach contents under a dissecting microscope, Liz enjoys hiking with her dog, microfishing, kayaking, and scientific illustration.
