Amado Castillo is a recent UCLA graduate with college honors, originally from Downey, California. He graduated cum laude in March 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts, double majoring in Sociology and Chicana/o Studies with minors in Environmental Systems and Society and Labor Studies. Amado is incredibly grateful to the Hispanic Access Foundation and the NPS for the opportunity to continue to uplift marginalized communities in Los Angeles through his new role as a Community Assistance Fellow. Before his role with the National Parks Service, Amado served the UCLA community as a Student Assistant at the UCLA Institute of American Cultures, a Policy Fellow at the Latino Policy and Politics Initiative and as the Resident Assistant for the Chicanx/Latinx Living Learning community. He is interested in learning more about community outreach and the protection and creation of green spaces in his new role with the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program. Amado hopes to continue his education after the fellowship and wants to apply to Master of Urban and Regional Planning or law school programs.
