Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham Proclaims July 16th- July 24th Latino Conservation Week in New Mexico

New Mexico Wild applauds Governor Lujan Grisham for proclaiming the third week of July, Latino Conservation Week.

The Proclamation Reads:
WHEREAS, Latino communities have long lived on, thrived upon, and conserved New Mexico's natural resources and lands; and 
WHEREAS, traditional Hispano communities have hunted, fished, camped, gathered piñon, and managed acequias for generations; and
WHEREAS, Latinos of all backgrounds have demonstrated a strong conservation commitment to protecting and enjoying New Mexico’s outdoors; and
WHEREAS, reverence and stewardship for the land and its natural resources are an integral part of Latino cultural heritage; and 
WHEREAS, the State of New Mexico has some of the most beautiful wildernesses, outdoors, and public lands in the country; and 
WHEREAS, during the third week of July states and cities across the country will be celebrating Hispanic community leaders and organizations that support conservation issues; and 
NOW THEREFORE, I, Michelle Lujan Grisham, Governor of the State of New Mexico, do hereby proclaim July 16 through July 24, 2022 as: “Latino Conservation Week”
